During the upcoming Newark Peace Education Summit, Aldo Civico of Rutgers University will mingle his voice with those of three Noble Laureates--His Hiliness the Dalai Lama, Jody Williams and Shirin Ebadi--as well as Martin Luther King III and international "peace leaders" from a wide cross section of cultures, disciplines and perspectives.
"It is an absolute honor to be part of such an important and significant event in Newark," commented Civico. "We live in a world where peace cannot be limited to the development of our freedoms and the pursue of equality. Our societies need brotherhood and sisterhood to turn them in open and inclusive communities in which we welcome, we appreciate, and we embrace the other."

The May 13-15 conference will explore the program, policies, and methods used by communities to establish peace, why and how they work, and how to replicate them in America and around the world. The Newark Peace Education Summit will highlight peacemaking as a way for individuals, communities, and nations to resolve conflicts and problems. The summit will present Nobel Laureates, civic leaders, organizations, scholars and activists, from around the country and the world, who have used peace and nonviolence to educate youth, to create safer neighborhoods, and to create more satisfying and fulfilling lives for countless people. From Rutgers University, also Professor Clement Price and senior research scholar Ishmael Beah will be on a panel with the Dalai Lama.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker is host of the summit, which is the first of its kind for the city. the conference is being convened by Tibet House US and the Drew Aw. Katz Foundation, with lead support from the Foundation, MCJ Amelior Foundation, and Lewis Katz.
